This year’s SigEp Presents: Shaving for a Cure was an enormous success. Ninety-one brothers and friends lined up to have the beautiful stylists from Douglas J Salon shave their heads. Senior Ethan Cohen headed a team of brothers who worked tirelessly to bring this event to fruition. All of the over $25,000 raised went to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, who sponsored Abby Gross, a family friend of Ben Fellows. Abby was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, and the money from our event will help cover her exorbitant medical fees. To kick off the event, Dr. Sung Choi, a pediatric oncologist and graduate of the Universtiy of Michigan, gave an inspiring speech in which she revealed how much the St. Baldrick’s Foundation meant to her personally in her line of work. Michigan football player Mark Moundros, who has been bald for quite some time, and proud of it, came to support the cause by selling “BALD” t-shirts and donating the proceeds to St. Baldrick’s. He also brought along members of the football team who helped brothers decorate cards for children at Mott’s Children’s Hospital. Abby’s mother gave an emotional speech on her daughter’s behalf at the end of the day, and everyone in the room could feel how grateful the Gross family felt for our support. Abby even left a special video message for us, since she was invited to a special week-long ski trip in Aspen, Colorado for children with life-threatening illnesses. Hopefully next year’s St. Baldrick’s event will be as successful as ever!

Spring Blacklight Dance a Big Success
Submitted by Luke Cardona on 01/24/11 04:02:00 PM
Just over 1,000 students turned out on the below zero degree Thursday night for SigEp's spring Blacklight Dance. The chapter is thankful for the support of the student body in not only making the dance successful, but for showing support for all student-driven events on our SDSU campus. SigEp looks forward to even more students at the next fall 2011 Blacklight Dance.

President Rick Stepanovic to Study in Greece

“Save for the wild force of nature, nothing exists in this world that is not Greek in origin.”
“Save for the wild force of nature, nothing exists in this world that is not Greek in origin.”
~ John Acton
The Greek influence resonates through our modern world in everything from democracy to physics, from the Olympics to institutions of higher learning. All of it sprang out of a small city-state nearly 2,500 years ago. Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity recognizes its Ancient Greek heritage and every year sends a few of its elite undergraduates on a week-long trip to Greece. The Tragos Quest to Greece is a total immersion in the birthplace of Western Civilization and participants walk in the Athenian Agora where Socrates first formed philosophy. They stand atop the rock where democracy was first practiced. They visit Olympia, site of the first Olympic Games and the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Hundreds of SigEp undergraduates nationwide compete for a chance to attend this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and one of those recipients is a member of our Michigan Alpha SigEp Chapter. President Rick Stepanovic, sophomore, received one of 18 scholarships to attend the 2010 Tragos Quest to Greece. Brother Stepanovic is a Political Science Major from New Baltimore, Michigan, and he said, “I am excited for the opportunity to represent our chapter at the highest level of the SigEp leadership continuum.” The 2010 Tragos Quest to Greece will take place from June 17 through the 27.
In August of 2005, the Tragos Quest to Greece was endowed with a $1 million gift by former St. Louis native and Washington U. alumnus William G. Tragos, ’56, and his wife Lilli. Brother Tragos is a Past Grand President of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and founder of the world’s first international advertising agency, TBWA. Brother Tragos is an active volunteer in Sigma Phi Epsilon and resides in Montecito, California.
